Six Rounds/Six Lessons

A play by John ADEkoje

Directed by Lois Roach

March 9 – March 31, 2007
Boston Center for the Arts Plaza Theatre

Company One presents this highly anticipated world-premiere by award-winning Boston playwright, John ADEkoje.  Directed by EMMY Award-winner Lois Roach, SIX ROUNDS / SIX LESSONS is a no-holds-barred exploration of truth, mortality and fatherhood. In a metaphysical boxing ring, we experience the story of Ace, a strong black male of sculpted body and mind. A father, son, brother and husband, Ace seeks redemption and enlightenment as a DJ cuts and scratches to the beat of his salvation.  Playwright John ADEkoje’s self-described “tragicomic hip-hop concerto” weaves an unconventional tale of morals, love and the realities of the streets.

365 DAYS / 365 PLAYS: Part of Suzan-Lori Parks’ Nationwide Festival of New Plays

IN NOVEMBER 2002, Suzan-Lori Parks sat down to work on her next play.  She finished it that day, starting what would become the process of writing an original play every day for one year.  The writing became a daily meditation, a prayer, celebrating the rich and strange process of an artistic life.  It’s called 365 DAYS / 365 PLAYS. The simple act of writing 365 plays in 365 days has inspired a nation-wide grassroots festival - a geographically-diverse relay race which invites each theater group to produce one week’s worth of plays in its own style, creating a testament not only to the daily artistic process, but also to the incredible diversity and richness of the American theatrical landscape.  The 365 National Festival starts on November 13, 2006 and continues everyday until November 12, 2007.  Company One is producing Week 18, one of the premiere weeks of the festival in Boston.  One play from 365 DAYS / 365 PLAYS will be presented before each performance of SIX ROUNDS / SIX LESSONS during the week of March 12th – 18th.  Plays are TOP SPEED, BOOK, THE LINE TO LIFE, THE RUN AROUND, OPENING NIGHT, FEDEX TO MY WIFE, and A PLAY FOR MY BROTHER, BUDDY, ON HIS 38TH BIRTHDAY.

In keeping with the National Festival, Company One is presenting 365 DAYS / 365 PLAYS free of charge.
