2010 Registration Form

Session A: IMPROVISATION 1
July 19th - July 30th

This two-week session is designed to familiarize students with the basic tools necessary for the art of acting. INTRO TO IMPROVISATION provides an introduction to basic voice and movement for the actor, and features games and exercises made famous by the hit television program "Whose Line Is It Anyway." This workshop will develop the students’ ability to comfortably and confidently act/react with others in an improvisational situation, and serves as an ideal introduction to improvisation for the inexperienced student as well as an opportunity for the more experienced student to further refine their improvisational acting skills.

Session B: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
July 19th - July 30th

This two-week session is designed for the student seeking a more advanced and intensive education in the craft of acting. Through impulse work and journal entries, students will not only strengthen their ability to cultivate well-rounded characters on stage, but more fully understand themselves as individuals as well. Students in CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT will create unique and complex characters, and using monologues, will explore these character’s complicated and fascinating stories.

Session C: IMPROVISATION 2
August 2nd - August 13th

This two-week session is designed for the student who is looking to take their improvisational skills to the next level.  In ADVANCED IMPROVISATION students will explore long form improvisation, developing skills to create and sustain strong character, relationship and narrative choices.  Students will weave together story, characters or themes in an effort to spontaneously create 20-30 minute plays.

Session D: SCENE CREATION
August 2nd - August 13th

This two-week session is designed to give each student opportunities to not only create their own character, but to create the environment in which that character lives. SCENE CREATION begins with students learning how to cooperatively develop a dynamic scenario and then working through the scene structure in order to create characters that are compelling and well-rounded.  Students will be challenged to use skills cultivated through prior experience with improvisation and character development that will facilitate strong playwriting and scene analysis work with fellow artists. Participation in the first three sessions is recommended but not required.
