Being a freshman in college is hard when your roommate is weird, home is far away, and Hookman is everywhere! What's Lexi to do when her old high school friend, Jess, gets killed...I mean - has an accident, a car accident, I think? Not even Facebook stalking the dead can calm the creepy feelings spilling out of the shadows in this existential comic horror slasher - a new play by Lauren Yee.

“ Yee is a talented young writer [whose] voice is absolutely worth a listen!”

XX PLAYLAB is a program developed by the Boston Center for the Arts that fulfills an urgent need in the theatre community by supporting female playwrights in the development and production of new scripts. The BCA and Company One will provide a dramaturgical advisor and workshop one new play over the course of a season, from initial reading to a full production.

OUT OF THE BOX

Nov 28, June 12, Aug 14
BCA Plaza

A competitive multimedia event of extravagant, show stopping brilliance spanning over three nights, Out-of-the-Box brings performance to the next level. Using a theme for each evening, local performers from all backgrounds — actors, musicians, dancers, poets, puppeteers and everything in between — will converge in a multimedia cabaret, the likes of which the Boston theatre scene has never seen. A winner will arise from the dust, judged completely by you, the audience.

IN OUR NAME: A Play of the Torture Years

by Michael Meltsner

The first dramatic reading of civil rights lawyer Michael MeltsnerŐs searing depiction of how and why the nation found itself brutally treating the men it detained-- some with good reason, some with stunning caprice-- after 9/11; the rationalizations offered by officialdom; the bizarre military hearings and the willful blindness of the public to what was happening behind barbed wire. Brendan Shea of the American Repertory Theatre called IN OUR NAME a Ňliving essayÓ in which the United States actions at Guantanamo are put on trial. ŇThe playŐs vibrant and visceral language is a great vehicle Éto communicate the complex issuesÓ Followed by a discussion with the audience and a distinguished panel of experts. The author is well known in the legal world for his representation of hundreds of death row inmates and for the case that restored Mohammad AliŐs right to box. Directed by Victoria Marsh.
