COMPANY ONE MONTHLY UPDATE, AUGUST 2008

GREETINGS!
Things just keep getting better with the C1 family...

WRAPPING THINGS UP...

THE CAST OF ASSASSINS

THE CAST OF ASSASSINS

As the summer days are growing shorter, Company One is successfully wrapping up another season of critically-acclaim, blockbuster theatre!  Hopefully you joined us for this summer's smash- hit ASSASSINS and our late-night wild romp, AFTER SCHOOL SPECIAL which placed a remarkable cap on our 9th season.

SEASON X

MARVELYN MCFARLANE & TASIA A. JONES IN THE BLUEST EYE

MARVELYN MCFARLANE & TASIA A. JONES IN THE BLUEST EYE

Not to worry, the C1 family is working hard to bring you another fantastic year of inspiring and exciting theatre.

Kicking off our big SEASON X is the Boston premiere of VOYEURS DE VENUS, written by Lydia Diamond and directed by Summer L. Williams, the same writer / director team that brought you Company One's fall 2007 production of THE BLUEST EYE.  This bold, sexy drama from Diamond, a Huntington Playwriting fellow, dealing with race, beauty and exploitation is sure to dazzle audiences.

Following VOYEURS DE VENUS is ARTiculation, a spoken word, poetry explosion conceived and performed by company members.

And rounding out SEASON X are two very dynamic experiences in storytelling, THE PAIN AND THE ITCH and AFTER THE QUAKE. Called "funny...tough-to-stomach social satire," by The New York Times, THE PAIN AND THE ITCH by Bruce Norris, offers scathing comic commentary on the state of our families and social values.

AFTER THE QUAKE, adapted by Tony award- winning director Frank Galati from two of Haruki Murakami's touching short stories is a simple, gentle tale of life in the wake of earth-shaking disaster. AFTER THE QUAKE beautifully challenges us to recognize and confront the depths of our fears.

FRINGE BENEFITS, Company One's second stage programming will feature another season of SLAMBoston, the hottest ten-minute play competition in Boston and a new collaboration with Phoenix Theatre Artists.  Under the direction of C1 alum, Greg Maraio and from the comedy writing team of John Kuntz and Rick Park, come THE SUPERHEROINE MONOLOGUES: A PARODY OF SUPER PROPORTIONS.  What do you get when you put Wonder Woman, Super Girl, Storm, Lois Lane and the world's most beloved spandex clad females on the same stage? An ass-whooping evening of theatre!

SEASON X promises to be the most exciting Company One season yet and you don't want to miss a moment of it!  CLICK HERE and get your Company Card today!

STAGE ONE: TEEN THEATRE

Stage One: Teen Theatre held its inaugural summer at the Boston Center for the Arts.  The students were lead by teachers Mark VanDerzee and Summer L. Williams, along with student teacher Peter Osterweil.  The students worked together for four weeks to write and produce their own script, which they presented for a very appreciative audience on their final day of class.  The performers and the script were amazing and Company One is so proud of their graduates and wishes them well as they go out and put their marks on Boston Theatre!

Special thanks to all of our guest instructors:
John ADEkoje - Playwriting
Lauren Antler - Improv
Jackie Davis - Movement
Ron Jones - Improv
John Kuntz - Voice
Shawn LaCount - Directing
Georgia Lyman - Stage combat

This program was supported in part by grants from The Ramsey McCluskey Family Foundation, The Boston Globe and the Mass Cultural Council. We thank them for their continued support of the arts.

SEE YOU NEXT SUMMER!  Keep an eye out for information coming out in January 09!

INTERNS

Company One would like to give a big shout-out to its amazing group of summer interns!  They were a big part of how successful this summer was for Company One, so thank you to Greg, Colby, Bryan, Evelyn, Andrew, Leah and Laura!

Company One is currently accepting applications for both production and administrative interns for the Fall and Spring.  Email your resume and cover letter to Managing Director, Sarah Shampnois at sshampnois@companyone.org.
