Company One Announces

American Theatre Wing National Theatre Company Grant

CELEBRATE WITH US!

We are proud to announce that Company One has been awarded a $10,000 American Theatre Wing National Theatre Company Grant. The award, to be used for general operating support, was granted to ten regional theatre companies who have articulated a distinctive mission, cultivated an audience, and nurtured a community of artists in ways that strengthen and demonstrate the quality, diversity, and dynamism of American theatre.

"We at Company One are honored to be one of the ten theatres across the country to receive this distinguished grant," said Shawn LaCount, Company One's Artistic Director. "We are proud to be in the company of some of the most exciting theatre-makers in America. Organizations like the American Theatre Wing make it possible for small companies to not simply dream big, but to transform our grand ideas into exciting contemporary performance."

The National Theatre Company Grants mark the first time in the American Theatre Wing's 53 years of grant-making to recognize companies outside of New York City. Lucie Arnaz, American Theatre Wing Grants Committee Chair, said, "In a bold departure from our past grants giving program, the Wing decided to use our limited resources to bring national attention and acknowledgment to what we feel are some of the most inspiring and innovative theatre companies on our national landscape. Fewer grants for more money on a wider scale. It's a very exciting concept."

Company One, resident theatre company at the Boston Center for the Arts, redefines the typical theatrical experience by developing, producing, and promoting socially relevant plays and innovative educational programming that appeal to, represent, and include Boston's diverse urban communities. Using the artistic experience to foster social change, we are committed to building community, educating, broadening arts participation and eliminating social divides. Since its inception in 1998, Company One has been instrumental in bringing socially and politically relevant theatre to the Boston area.

The American Theatre Wing will honor Company One and the other awarded companies at a special luncheon in October. The other recipients of the National Theatre Company Grants are: 1812 Productions (Philadelphia, PA), About Face Theatre (Chicago, IL), Boise Contemporary Theatre (Boise, ID), Curious Theatre Company (Denver, CO), The Flea Theatre (New York, NY), Profile Theatre (Portland, OR), Silk Road Theatre Project (Chicago, IL), Synetic Theatre (Arlington, VA), and Triad Stage (Greensboro, NC).

You are a part of the reason we are being recognized!
